So safe to say my 26th was the hottest birthday I've ever had! Usually back home its the shortest day of the year with snow and some classic Christmas music!
This year I spent my birthday...
...sailing around the Whitsunday islands. Glouriously hot weather, beautiful white sandy beaches and a huge sail boat full backpackers! As we cruised around the islands we got to paddle board, reef snorkle, bush walk and build human pyramids on the famous Whithaven Beach. Grabbing a beer with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair whilst looking out on to the horizon and watching the sun set; a decent way to cement in the mid 20's.
We started by heading out of the harbour and across the open sea to our first group of islands. Here we stopped for a quick swim in the bay. The diving board was out and we tested our balance on the paddle boards!
We anchored up for the night under the clear blue sky. The first night in the boat was full of food, beers and a few drinking games. With the music playing into the night with the odd shooting star!
Our first morning was an early start, up at 6am! We headed out to Whit Haven island. Here we went on a bush walk to a look out point across the islands and famous white sandy beaches. Our skipper then took us on an animal search, we found several sting rays, sharks amd the odd jelly fish. We then took loads of photos and built human pyramids with the others on the boat! Good team building exercise and gave everyone a chance to get to know each other a little better! I had a large German girls knee in my back for the pyramid! Lovely.
In the afternoon we hit up a coral reef bay. Here we snorkled with tropical fish and hard and soft coral. The sea here is a cool 28 degrees. We also got out the boat slide and diving board. The slide was a huge inflatable shoot off the top deck of the boat!
That night I recieved a birthday cake from the crew and the traditional happy birthday song! All down to Sam, even after I said dont make a fuss! That night we cracked out the goon and beers again and chilled under the clear nights sky.
The following morning was another early start as we were thrown into the sea for a morning snorkel trip! Fish food attracted all the fish from the bay as we swam through hundreds of tropical fish and beautiful clear waters!
That afternoon we headed back to the main land as we chilled out and enjoyed the sun on deck! Exhausted. I'm definitely getting to old for this!
Safe to say an epic birthday, great people and the perfect location to turn a year older! Definitely a birthday I won't forget! Back on dry land we let the sea legs reside and headed out for the after party with all our crew and mates. Turns out its another person's birthday, back on it then!
Our next trip takes us to Townsville and our destination for Christmas, Magnetic Island!
